Aizawl, 8 September 2025: A ten-day national workshop titled “Mobile Campus-Based Training on Basics of Remote Sensing and GIS” was inaugurated today at Mizoram University, Tanhril. The event is being organized by the Department of Geography and Resource Management in collaboration with the North-East Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR), drawing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty keen to advance their knowledge in cutting-edge geospatial technologies.
The inaugural programme, held at the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Training Hall, was chaired by Prof. Benjamin L. Saitluanga, Head of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, who welcomed the dignitaries and participants and set the tone for the workshop.
The ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, Prof. Pravakar Rath, who attended as Chief Guest. Distinguished Guests of Honour included Prof. Vishwambhar Prasad Sati, Dean, School of Earth Sciences & Natural Resources Management; Dr. K.C. Lalramsawnzaua, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram; and Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General of NECTAR.
The dignitaries, in their addresses, underlined the importance of remote sensing and GIS as vital tools for sustainable development, environmental management, and policy planning, while encouraging participants to leverage the training for academic growth and practical applications.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Naorem Bobby Singh, Convenor of the workshop, who expressed gratitude to the guests, collaborators, and participants for their presence and support.
The workshop promises to deliver intensive training sessions over the next ten days, combining conceptual learning with practical exercises, thereby equipping participants with essential geospatial skills.
