About the School:
The School of Medical and Para Medical Sciences was established in the year 2008 to meet the high demands of medical and para-medical services in the country, especially for the local people of Mizoram. It has one Academic Department in the University Campus which is the Department of Clinical Psychology and other affiliated colleges- (1) Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), (2) Zoram Medical College (ZMC), (3) the Mizoram Nursing College (MCON), (4) the College of Nursing, Synod Hospital, (5) B.N. College of Nursing.

It started functioning on 1st August 2019 offering PG, M Phil in Clinical Psychology (RCI approved Course) and Ph.D. programmes. The Department has 7 posts for teaching faculty (prof-1, Asso Prof-2, Asst prof-4) and was established with a vision of the Centre for Behavioral Intervention and Research Centre, here in Mizoram University Campus.

RIPANS is the only Institute under the administrative control of Govt. of India which offers career-oriented courses in the field of Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical Sciences under one roof.
The Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS) is an autonomous Institution under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. RIPANS was set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, North Eastern Council (NEC) on 30th March, 1995 to provide Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical education to the people of North East States including Sikkim and to maintain the pace of Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical education and services in related field. The Institute was transferred to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India on 1st April, 2007.
RIPANS is located at Zemabawk on the slope of a hill, the site is surrounded by National Highway 54 on the South-East and Mizoram State Cancer Institute (MSCI) and Central Medical Store (Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram) on the North-West. It is located in the outskirt, about 10 km away from the capital city of Aizawl. The scenic beauty of the Campus on completion itself will be attractive beyond comparison with any other similar Institute. The site offers wide scope of development in terms of infrastructure and the dedicated services of the teaching and non-teaching staff have created an environment of real education. It was established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals’ on 19th Feb. 2014, got affiliation of Mizoram University on the 7th January 2015 and also got a letter of Permission (LoP) from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India. - Mizoram Nursing College:

The college is run by the Government of Mizoram and was established in 1990. The institution was established in 1980 with a capacity of 20 students for the General Nursing & Midwifery course under Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Mizoram and thus became a pioneer in this field. For nearly 40 years, this institution has served the people and the Government by producing excellent and dedicated nurses. Their ex-students have gone on to serve the people of our country well and some have gone beyond that by working abroad in modern hospitals all across the globe. The institution was upgraded to the College of Nursing on 11th Oct.2005 to conduct a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which is a 4-year course. It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and affiliated to the Mizoram University. - College of Nursing, Synod Hospital

It is the first nursing school in Mizoram and also the oldest school of Nursing in North East India, which was started in 1928. It was established to train local people to become trained nurses as there were no trained nurses available during those days within the Lushai Hills. The Nursing College got recognition from the Nursing Council of India in 1944 and became the College of Nursing in June, 2019. The College of Nursing, Synod Hospital is run and supported by the Mizoram Presbyterian Church.
By 1966, there were as many as 149 students who had successfully completed the course. The medium of teaching was changed from Lusei language to English in the year 1972. The school has been upgraded to a College of Nursing recently with a degree programme ie, BSc (Nursing) with an annual intake of 30 students - B.N. College of Nursing

The college was established in December 2020 under the Government of Mizoram. The college got recognition from the State Nursing Council, Mizoram in 2020. The College aims to provide career opportunities for students within India and abroad.
The Dean, and faculties with students of the department visited Central Jail Tanhril on 4th October 2019. They assessed mental health status and taught life skills to 90 convicted inmates and inmates charged with rigorous imprisonment.
The Dean, and 37 members of the Department of Clinical Psychology, MZU were deputed by the Government of Mizoram to give psychological support to the victims of the Earthquake which hitmany villages of Champhai and Khawzawl Districts in Mizoram State on behalf of the Government of Mizoram during 9th July to 13th July, 2020. They team fearlessly approached under the heavy rainfall and many landslides, and visited 31 villages within the coverage of 3 MLA constituencies completed the mission with wonderful success. They visited villages were:
Hrangturzobial (Biate), East Tuipuibial- (Khuangthing, Zawlsei, Khawbung, Dungtlang, Leithum, Farkawn, Thekte, Thekpui, Khankawn, Vaphai, E Chawngtui, Saikhumphai (tlawh lo-kawngchhia), Samthang, Khuangleng, Lianpui, Sesih, Leisenzo, Vangchhia, Sazep, Vanzau, Bungzung, Zawngtetui), lehChamphai South Bial (Zokhawthar, Bulfekzawl, Melbuk, Hruaikawn, New Hruaikawn, Kelkang, Buang, Dilkawn, Mualkawi, Zotlang).
Dean and faculty of the Department of Clin Psych visited the Thutak Nunpuitu Team in Observance of World Mental Day and conducted psychological diagnosis to the inmates of the Home to make recommendations for Disability certificates on 10th October 2021
The Dean, and faculty members and students of the Department of Clinical Psychology visited the adopted village – Hmuifang village which is located 50 km away from Aizawl and spent the whole day visiting all schools to deliver the importance of mental health issues and also cleaning the villageon 22nd April 2022 resulting amazing achievement.
Prof Zokaitluangibeing a Supreme Court approved Mediator performed as conciliator in the Lok Adalat State Level organized by State Level Lok Adalat and National Lok Adalat organized by National Lok Adalat, and settled a huge number of disputes.
Dean (as Convener) and the faculty members (Member) were appointed to the Committee on COVID-19 psychological and sociology Guidance in the outbreak of COVID19, visited quarantine centres run by the Government of Mizoram and NGOs across the Mizoram states giving psychological support to the hybrid mode with remarkable success.
Dean, faculties and students ever ready to give awareness to the importance of mental and physical health to all citizens. In doing so, they have done many performances visiting the victims personally, even reaching out online mode to give psychological and medical support.
