About the Department
The department of economics was started under NEHU Mizoram Campus in 1979 with only one regular faculty. The intake capacity at the beginning was 20 students, which has been raised to 50. Although the department has 8 sanctioned faculty positions, it is currently manned by 6 regular faculty and 2 guest faculty. One senior professor is on lien as Finance Officer. The department functions smoothly and has been offering Post Graduate and Ph.D. courses. The department is proud of its passed-out students for having a good placement record under state as well as central governments. A number of research and consultancy projects have been undertaken by the faculty with funding supports from the state, central and international agencies. In addition, the expertise of the faculty are from time to time, effectively used for framing and monitoring projects and policies for the state and central governments.
