The Department of Zoology as a post-graduate department came into existence on 11th February 2005 and the first batch of M.Sc. students was admitted in academic session of 2006 and graduated in the year 2008. The syllabus of M.Sc. course is framed based on UGC CBCS guidelines. The department offers P.G., M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses with an intake capacity of 30 students in PG course. The syllabus of M.Sc. course is strictly framed as per the UGC guidelines. The research areas include Cancer Biology and Radiation Biology, Conservation Biology, Entomology, Developmental Biology, Systematics, Genetics, Chronobiology and Reproductive Biology.The Department at present has 2 Professors and 5 Assistant Professors. The non -teaching Staff include Lower Division Clerk, Senior Technical Assistant, Technical Assistant, Laboratory Attendant and a Peon.The course for M.Sc. is based on choice based credit system (CBCS) and comprises of four semesters of six months duration each. The whole course has been allocated 88
credits and consists of 20 theory papers including dissertation out of which four papers consists of specialization courses with six alternate choices, four papers as foundation courses with one open elective course.The department has thirty seats in M.Sc. programme.
The department is in the process of setting up a modern animal house and tissue culture facilities, museum and procure state of art equipments required to cater to the needs of teaching and research.
