About the School:

The School of Social Sciences came into being as an entity in the year 2002 through a notification issued by the Registrar, Mizoram University vide letter no. 5/3/05-Admn II/60, dt. 22/6/2002. The School consists of Six Post Graduate Departments namely- department of Psychology-8 (Estb-1983); Public Administration-8 (1985), Political Science-7 (2002), Social Work-7 (2002), History & Ethnography-6 (2002), and Sociology-4 (2014). There are 40 regular faculties and 25 supporting staff such as Stenographer, U.D.C/L.D.C, T.A, MTS.
There is one Undergraduate College i.e Govt. Mizoram Law College and two centres namely – UGC-Women’s Studies Centre and Centre for Public Policy & Good Governance, Deptt. of Public Administration, recently inaugurated (on 27th February, 2024) by the Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University under the lookout of the School of Social Sciences.
Contemporary Social Scientist, A refereed Bi-Annual journal has been published since 2011 till date. The last issue of the journal of the school was released by the Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University on 7th November, 2023 in the inaugural programme of International Conference on Social Science, at MZU Auditorium.
The School has adopted village i.e. Nghalchawm village and the advance study team had visited the village on 11th December to have a pilot study/survey.
During 2023-24 The School conducted two Board of School of Social Sciences and two Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUGS) in law. An interactive session at Govt. Mizoram Law College was held on 30th August 2023. The School of Social Sciences also conducted 3 Day International Conference on Social Sciences during 7th -9th November, 2023. During the report period 11(eleven) Head of Department meeting under the School of Social Sciences was held.
Kawnpui College had visited the School on 23rd February, 2024 and the Dean conducted an interactive session with the teachers and students of the college.
A Special Lecture Meeting on Women and Politics was organised by the Dean on 25th May, 2023. The Dean also One Day Orientation Programme on Office Management on 15th September, 2023 for Non-Teaching Staff under the School of Social Sciences.
