Mizoram University marked National Space Day 2024 on August 23, 2024, at the Mizoram University Auditorium, organized by the Department of Physics. The celebration titled “Touching lives while touching the moon, Indias Space Saga” aimed to sensitize and raise awareness amongst the youth about the significance of space exploration and its applications in everyday life. Prof. Suman Rai, Dean, School of Physical Sciences, delivered the welcome address, followed by an introduction by Prof. R. C. Tiwari, Senior Professor, Dept. of Physics, MZU. Prof. Tiwari shed light on the Indian space program, its various aspects, and the work done by different space centers and facilities. He emphasized that space science is not limited to space but has a significant impact on the common man, with applications in weather forecasting, flood warning systems, and more. The Chief Guest, Prof. Pravakar Rath, Pro Vice Chancellor, MZU, highlighted the contribution of space technology to the betterment of society. He stressed that as research advances, the common man will benefit more, and the future of the nation as a developed country rests on programs like space exploration. Invited Speaker, Dr. Lalramdina, Scientist, Mizoram Remote Sensing Application Centre, gave his presentation on space technology, remote sensing, and GIS. He explained the applications of remote sensing in urbanization, transportation, agriculture, natural resource management, and national security. He also discussed the uses of remote sensing data, including atmospheric pressure, greenhouse gases, and changes in land use dynamics. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arvind Maurya, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Physics, MZU. The celebration successfully inspired the audience, particularly the youth, to take an interest in space sciences and its applications.
Celebration of National Space Day 2024
Mizoram University, in collaboration with the US Consulate General and partner YRGCARE, successfully hosted an internationalization program titled "Experience America: Educational Opportunities in the U.S. & Enhancing Student Mobility in Northeast" on August 14, 2024. The event, held from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the MZU Auditorium, aimed to promote educational opportunities in the United States and enhance student mobility in the Northeast region, aligning with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The program commenced with a warm welcome remark by Prof. HK Laldinpuii Fente, Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), MZU. The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of Internationalization in higher education. Ms. Aishwarya Mondal from the US Embassy presented an overview of the Education, English language, and Cultural programs, as well as the "Experience America" initiative. This was followed by a virtual orientation on the application procedure to US universities, conducted by Mrs. Megha Roy Chatterjee, Adviser, Education USA. The program also featured an open discussion and interaction session with students, providing them with valuable insights and information. Sandhya Krishnan from YRGCARE shared her journey and experiences in the student mobility program, inspiring the students to explore international opportunities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Registrar of MZU, expressing gratitude to the participants, speakers, and collaborators. The program was well-attended by faculty and students of Mizoram University and different colleges from Aizawl. The successful hosting of this program marked a significant step towards promoting internationalization and student mobility at Mizoram University.
