FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE AVAILABLE:

 The State Biotech Hub was established in the year 2011 and is the state of the art research facility in Mizoram funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi. The Objective of DBT, New Delhi to set-up theState Biotech Hub is to strengthen the capacity of Mizoram to undertake research in anybranch of Biology /Life Science /Biotechnology /Environmental Sciences /Chemistry/Physics /Bioinformatics /Biomedical Sciences/ Agri /Veterinary Sciences; to promoteeducation & research for development and transfer of knowledge systems; to attractstudents to build their career in different fields of in Biology/ Biotechnology; to organizesummer / winter courses for school / college / institute students and teachers and to havelinkage with other biotech hubs/ other institutes to interact and collaborate.Other objectives include biotech awareness programs for farmers/ general public/ NGO’s and publishingmanuals/ newsletters.

The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) was established in the year 2008 funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhiand the facility is housed in the Dept. of Biotechnology of the Mizoram University. DBT had in the year 2008 established Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility in the NER states for capacity buildingand enhancing the quality of research in Bioinformatics. There has beensignificant output in the form of manpower training, researchpublications and creation of infrastructure.Other facilities include Electronic journal access facility for about 525 science journals through DBT- Digital e-library consortium (DeLCON).

 The BIF center has developed a software PROT-PROP for physio-chemical characterisation of Proteins. Click here to download the PROT-PROP software.

These facilities have been created with an objective of providing a central facility for teaching and research in all the areas of physical, environmental, biological, allied and interdisciplinary sciences. It caters to all the Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges, and University Departments in and outside the state of Mizoram.

The faculty of Department of Biotechnology, Mizoram University will be happy to receive proposals for collaborative research, joint teaching and training/ extension programs in basic and applied sciences as well as in interdisciplinary endeavors.
