Comprehensive Guide to Changing Your Mizoram University Email ID (Alias)

This guide provides detailed instructions for eligible faculty and staff who wish to change the existing email ID. The new ID will function as an alias for your existing account.


❗️ Important: Please Read This Section First

Before you submit your request, it is crucial to understand the following key points:

  • You Will NOT Lose Any Data: Your existing inbox, folders, and emails will remain exactly as they are. This process does not create a new, separate account; it simply adds a new address to your current one.

  • Your Old Email Address Remains Active: You will continue to receive all emails sent to your old address. There will be no interruption in communication.

  • Your Password WILL Be Reset: For security purposes, requesting a new alias will trigger an automatic password reset for your entire email account (new as well as the old email account).

    • A temporary password will be sent to your correspondence email.

    • Correspondence email will be provided by you at the time of form submission. DO NOT give your old MZU email as your correspondence email. 

    • You must use this temporary password for your first login after the change is complete. You will then be forced to set a new, permanent password.


Step-by-Step Guide to Requesting Your Email Alias

Follow these steps to ensure a smooth process.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Only faculty members and regular employees of Mizoram University who already possess an official university email account are eligible for this service.

Step 2: Submit the Official Request Form

  • To begin, you must fill out the official request form.

  • The link to the form is provided at the end of this instruction.

Step 3: Receive Your Acknowledgement

  • Immediately after submitting the form, an automated acknowledgement email will be sent to your correspondence email. 

  • This email will contain a unique Acknowledgement Number. Please save this number for your records.

Step 4: Track the Status of Your Request

  • You can monitor the progress of your request using the Acknowledgement Number.

  • A tracking portal is available at the bottom of this page.

Step 5: Final Confirmation and First Login

  • Once your new email alias has been created, you will receive a final confirmation email. This email will be sent to your correspondence email and will contain your new temporary password.

  • Log out from your old mizoram university email. Log in to your new Mizoram University email account using this temporary password. You will be forced to create a new, permanent password immediately.


Understanding Your New Email Alias

The new email ID you request works as an alias. This means:

  • One Inbox: Emails sent to both your old and new addresses will arrive in the same single inbox.

  • Primary Sending Address: Your new email ID will become your primary address. When you compose and send new emails, they will be sent from your new ID by default.

  • Flexible Use: You can give out either your new or old email address to people.

Example:

  • Old Email: john_doe_old@mzu.edu.in

  • New Alias: john.doe@mzu.edu.in

  • An email sent to either of these addresses will land in John Doe’s single inbox. When John sends an email, it will appear as being from john.doe@mzu.edu.in.
