Aizawl, 10 September 2025: The Mizoram University Task Force on Mental Well-Being organized a Screening & Sensitization Campaign on Mental Well-Being to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2025 at the University Auditorium. The programme was aimed at raising awareness, fostering open dialogue, and reinforcing collective efforts to safeguard the mental health of the University fraternity.
The event was conducted in two sessions. The first session, chaired by Prof. C. Lalfamkima Varte, Nodal Officer, featured a keynote address by Rev. Dr. H. Vanlalruata, Pastor of Chanmari Presbyterian Church. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental well-being in today’s society and called for united efforts in combating suicide. Dr. C. Zothanmawia, Coordinator, presented a technical report on the mental health assessment conducted within the University campus.
The second session was chaired by Dr. Lalhriatpuia, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H). Mr. Zosangliana, Secretary, Government of Mizoram, addressed the gathering, drawing attention to mental health issues in rural contexts and highlighting the urgent need to address men’s mental health.
In compliance with the mandate of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Mizoram University has initiated a comprehensive mental health assessment for all its fraternity. The first phase, which involved campus-wide screening, was carried out from 19th August to 3rd September 2025. A detailed report will be published upon completion of this phase, followed by the second phase focusing on follow-up actions and necessary interventions.
The programme reflected Mizoram University’s deep commitment to promoting mental well-being, raising awareness on suicide prevention, and building a supportive and compassionate campus environment.
