Mizoram University Hosts Two-Day Programme on Partition Horror as Part of 79th Independence Day Celebrations

The Department of History and Ethnography, Mizoram University, successfully organised a two-day programme on 13th and 14th August 2025 in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations.

On 13th August, a Photo Exhibition on Partition Horror was inaugurated by Prof. H. K. Laldinpuii Fente, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MZU. Centred on the agony of Partition and the traumatic experiences of common people, the exhibition stirred deep reflection among participants. An open discussion followed, where students and faculty shared their perspectives on the historical and human dimensions of the Partition.

On 14th August, a One-Day Seminar on Partition Horror Remembrance Day was organised. The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, who delivered the inaugural address. The seminar featured a moving skit by students of the Department of Hindi, effectively depicting the sufferings and resilience of Partition survivors.

The highlight of the seminar was a panel discussion with eminent scholars—Prof. Kishor Gaikwad, Prof. R. K. Mohanty, and Prof. K. Robin—who explored the historical, cultural, and social significance of remembering Partition. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 200 attendees, including faculty members, research scholars, and students, making it a memorable and thought-provoking commemoration.
