Aizawl, 28 August 2025: The Department of History & Ethnography, Mizoram University, organized a Two-Day National Workshop on “Mizo Origins: Migration, Settlement, Culture and Religion” from 28th to 29th August 2025 at the MMTC Lecture Hall, MZU. The workshop sought to provide a platform for scholarly dialogue on the historical roots, cultural dynamics, and religious traditions of the Mizos, fostering deeper academic understanding and research collaboration.
The inaugural programme began with a warm Welcome Address by Prof. Kishor Gaikwad, Head of the Department of History & Ethnography, who introduced the theme and emphasized its contemporary relevance. This was followed by the Keynote Address from Prof. K. Robin, Convener of the Workshop, who offered insightful reflections on the central theme while outlining the academic framework for the sessions ahead.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and delivered the Inaugural Speech. In his address, he highlighted the importance of such academic initiatives in advancing research, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting inter-institutional collaboration. Prof. H.K. Laldinpuii Fente, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, also addressed the gathering, enriching the inaugural programme with her scholarly perspectives.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Lalngurliana Sailo, Department of History & Ethnography, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, and organizing committee.
