The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department established in the year 2007 stands as a pivotal pillar in the academic and administrative framework of Mizoram University. In an age where digital transformation drives educational paradigms, our ICT Department emerges as a beacon of technological advancement, ensuring that the university remains at the cutting edge of digital innovation. Beyond just a functional unit, the department plays a quintessential role in enhancing the teaching-learning experience, streamlining administrative processes, and fostering an environment of digital inclusivity.
The department’s importance is further underlined by its expansive responsibilities, from managing the vast Campus Network to spearheading eGov project implementations and ensuring seamless online interactions. This robust digital backbone aids the university in fulfilling its commitment to excellence, making ICT not just a department but an integral ethos of Mizoram University.
At the heart of this dynamic department is a dedicated team of 11 professionals. Each member brings a unique expertise, collectively ensuring that the ICT infrastructure and services remain top-notch, responsive, and aligned with the university’s vision. Mission:
To empower the Mizoram University community with state-of-the-art information and communication technologies, facilitating seamless access to global knowledge, fostering innovation in eGov projects, and driving academic and operational excellence through consistent digital transformation.

Robust System and Network Management:
Our facilities ensure regular monitoring and optimization of servers, storage solutions, and network performance to maintain optimal functionality. We pride ourselves on successfully safeguarding vital data through comprehensive backup and recovery systems.
Advanced Network Infrastructure:
One of our core competencies is maintaining the expansive Campus Network, which spans all academic and administrative buildings. Currently, over 800 nodes are cable-connected, facilitating a seamless digital experience. Further enhancing our network reach, we support around 4,500 internet users through 350 state-of-the-art access points. In addition, we’ve extended WiFi connectivity to encompass every academic building and student hostel.
Cutting-edge Web Infrastructure:
Our team ensures the university website remains up-to-date and user-friendly, compatible across devices and browsers, ensuring smooth access for students, faculty, and visitors.
eGov Project Implementation and Management:
Our facilities are fully equipped to handle the development and integration of eGov projects, ensuring streamlined operations and compliance with regulations.
Dedicated Online Activity Hub:
We’ve successfully established a hub to support a plethora of digital activities. Whether it’s webinars or online recruitments, our technical infrastructure ensures smooth operations.
Custom Software Development Studio:
Our facility houses a dedicated space for software development tailored to meet the unique needs of the university, ensuring software compatibility and integration with current systems.
ICT Training Centre:
Central to our mission of digital empowerment is our well-equipped Training Hall. Here, various ICT training programs are conducted, ensuring that our academic community stays abreast of the latest in digital advancements. Additionally, a state-of-the-art Video Conferencing System is installed to facilitate online meetings, serving both official and academic needs.
Digitally Equipped Academic Classrooms:
A testament to our commitment to enhancing the teaching-learning experience is the digital transformation of our classrooms. Every academic classroom is now furnished with ceiling-mounted projectors and laptops. The entire installation process, aimed at revolutionizing teaching methods, was meticulously overseen by our Centre.
Dedicated User Support Desk:
Our facility includes timely redressal of ICT support, addressing hardware troubleshooting, software installations, and user training needs.

- Online entrance test: Through the support of the ICT Department, Mizoram University conducts online entrance tests, a pivotal step in ensuring a transparent, timely, and convenient admission procedure for prospective students.
- Online recruitments: Recruitments were conducted in online mode to facilitate the experts and candidates to attain from their respective preferred locations.
- Online Learning Management System: The ICT Department has adeptly implemented an Online Learning Management System using Moodle, a fundamental tool in enhancing the virtual learning environment and ensuring uninterrupted academic progress for students at Mizoram University.
- Smart Classroom initiatives: The ICT Department spearheads the installation of smart boards and digital pads across the campus, a transformative step in modernizing classroom experiences and enhancing interactive learning. Beyond just installation, the ICT Centre also conducted comprehensive training sessions, ensuring that faculty harness the full potential of these smart boards, which is vital for effective teaching in today’s digital age.
- Student Life cycle implementation: Student life cycle model captures and streamlines student’s activities from the online application, to the fee payment and finally to the Alumni portal. Some important aspects are –

- Established Seamless Network Connectivity: Ensured uninterrupted internet access across the campus, with a special emphasis on deploying and maintaining a robust WiFi infrastructure. The university has around 350 Access Points installed. Steps are being taken to further enhance the coverage of the Access Points. All the network switches have been upgraded to 1G switch.
- Implemented Advanced Network Security Protocols: Actively monitored network traffic to identify and mitigate potential threats. Firewall has been implemented and user accounts have been logged. Currently around 4500 active users have been created for WiFi and internet access accounts.
- Streamlined Account Management: Established and meticulously managed user profiles and dedicated university email accounts.
- Upgraded and Maintained the University Website: Ensured that the website remained current and user-friendly, with consistent compatibility checks across devices and browsers.
- Pioneered eGov Project Implementation: Developed strategies and collaborated extensively to integrate eGov projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Some important mentions are:

- Actively Developing Tailored Software Solutions: One custom software is in active design phase to address the university’s specific needs of ensuring the seamless integration with existing systems.
- Instant Messaging System for all Students/Employees: IMs have been implemented for PCs connected to the university network. Efforts are ongoing to extend this service beyond the campus, with the aim to integrate it with handheld devices like mobile phones.
- Provided Exceptional Operational Support: Assisted with daily ICT operations, maintaining and troubleshooting a range of ICT hardware.
- Elevated User Experience with Dedicated Support and Training: Provided timely assistance and conducted regular training sessions, enhancing the digital proficiency of the university community.
