In a world becoming more digital and virtual, tourism offers the possibility for learners to increase their awareness and develop a broader perspective. Tourism also helps young people to discover their heritage which enables a deeper understanding of themselves and their cultural roots. Yuva Tourism Clubs are a step in that direction.
The Yuva Tourism Club is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Tourism in India to promote tourism awareness and foster a culture of travel and tourism among the youth.
The Yuva Tourism Club at Mizoram University is a dynamic student organization committed to promoting responsible tourism, environmental sustainability, and cultural awareness. Through a range of events and activities, the club aims to inspire and educate students about the significance of tourism in Mizoram and beyond while fostering a sense of community and responsibility.
In year 2023 Yuva Tourism Club, Mizoram University Secured 2nd Position in Mizoram state and award given by Tourism Department, Mizoram.

Objectives of Yuva Tourism Club, Mizoram University:
- Promote the Importance of Travel and Tourism: Enable learners to understand and appreciate the significance of travel and tourism in fostering economic, social, and cultural development.
- Ignite Passion for Tourism: Inspire and cultivate a deep passion for tourism among students, highlighting its value and potential impact.
- Educate on Natural and Cultural Heritage: Provide comprehensive education on the rich natural and cultural heritage present in India’s villages, towns, cities, and states, fostering appreciation and preservation.
- Sensitize to Travel Elements: Increase awareness and sensitivity to various aspects of travel, including environmental, cultural, and social elements.
- Encourage Responsible Tourism Practices: Teach and promote responsible tourism practices that ensure sustainable and beneficial interactions between tourists and local communities.
- Enhance Health and Well-being: Promote exploratory, adventure, and sports tourism as means to improve physical and mental health among students.

Proposed List of Activities:
- Talks and Lectures: Arrange talks and lectures by eminent scholars and experts in the field of tourism and hospitality.
- Presentations and Exhibitions: Organize presentations, notice boards, and exhibitions using educational material provided by the Ministry of Tourism.
- Debates and Dialogues: Conduct debates and dialogues on topics related to Indian tourism, culture, and heritage.
- Quiz Programs: Host quiz programs focused on Indian tourism and heritage.
- Conservation Projects: Undertake projects for conservation work, including the adoption of historical monuments and other tourist locations near the Department.
- PenPal Scheme: Implement a PenPal scheme for inter-state sharing of views on tourism and the unique offerings of each state.
- Walk Tours: Conduct walk tours in the local city or town to explore local crafts, cuisine, tourist places, and experiences.
- Nature Walks/Excursions: Organize nature walks and excursions to local parks, areas of biodiversity, and agrarian sites.
- Student Involvement: Involve students in generating ideas for tourism and providing feedback on existing tourist experiences in the town or city.
- Tourism Ideathons: Set up Tourism Ideathons in the Department, challenging students to creatively come up with new tourist experiences relevant to their locality and audience.
- Tourism Stall: Establish a Tourism Stall in the Department where students can market and promote tourist experiences in the city or town to fellow students.
- Tourism Trip Day: Allocate a particular day each week as a Tourism Trip Day, with each week mapped to a specific tourism theme like adventure, spiritual, nature, wildlife, heritage, etc. Interested students can join the university transport system on that day to visit a themed location, promoting regular tourism and adding fun, learning, and camaraderie.

- “Travel for LiFE” Pledge: Conducted on 12 May 2023.
- Swachhata Abhiyan: Organized on 01 September 2023.

Yuva Tourism Club Organizes Swachata Abhiyan Activity at Mizoram University

In a remarkable display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the Yuva Tourism Club at Mizoram University successfully organized a Swachata Abhiyan (Cleanliness Drive) on Oct 01, 2023. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 45 members, including MBA and Ph.D. students, who came together to clean the outside area of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
The Swachata Abhiyan activity took place on a pleasant Friday morning, and the energetic participants gathered with a shared commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of their university campus. Under the leadership of the Yuva Tourism Club, they engaged in sweeping, picking up litter, and ensuring the surrounding area was free from any waste or debris.
The event was not only a testament to the club’s dedication to responsible tourism and environmental sustainability but also highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives to maintain a clean and green campus.
To acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the participants, the Yuva Tourism Club concluded the event by distributing refreshments, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the attendees.

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign” Celebrates 77th Independence Day with Zeal and Patriotism
In a spirited celebration of India’s 77th Independence Day, the Yuva Tourism Club at Mizoram University organized the “Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign.” The event, which took place from August 13 to 15, 2024, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 50 members, including MBA and Ph.D. students, who unfurled the national flag with pride at their homes. The campaign was sponsored by the North East Regional Office, Guwahati, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
With the theme of “Har Ghar Tiranga,” this unique initiative aimed to foster a sense of patriotism and unity among the students while commemorating the historic occasion of India’s Independence Day. Under the guidance of the Yuva Tourism Club, students took it upon themselves to host the national flag at their residences, making the tricolor a symbol of honor and pride for every household.
The campaign was not limited to individual homes but also extended to the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, which distributed 50 Indian flags to symbolize the spirit of unity in diversity. The flags served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters and the collective responsibility to uphold the values of democracy, liberty, and diversity.
The “Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign” was a resounding success, demonstrating the deep-rooted love and respect that the student community at Mizoram University holds for their nation. The presence of esteemed faculty members including Prof. Himanshu Bhusan Rout, Head of Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and other faculty members, Dr. Rajdeep, Dr. Pankaj, Dr. Rajesh, Dr. Yaja Millo, and Dr. Lalrosanga, added to the success of the event. Their support and encouragement played a pivotal role in making the “Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign” a memorable and impactful initiative.
Clean Drive Campaign Activity
The Yuva Tourism Club at Mizoram University conducted a successful Clean Drive Campaign to promote cleanliness and hygiene in the vicinity of the Department of Management and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Dedicated club members enthusiastically cleaned the areas, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment. This initiative reflects the club’s commitment to responsible tourism and community well-being.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Teacher Coordinator/Nodal Officer:
The Teacher Coordinator is appointed by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management to spearhead activities for the Tourism Club in the Mizoram University. He/she has to appoint the Final Year Degree Student Body and assign specific roles within the body through a regular process followed every year. He/she must attend all the student Body meetings and guide the discussion along with the Student Head of the body.
Student Head:
The Student Head’s primary role is to lead the club, making sure that it functions effectively.
Responsibilities include:
- Understand the vision and objectives of the Tourism Clubs.
- Meet with the outgoing Student Head and student body to review the club’s records and discuss its current activities.
- Conduct effective meetings by preparing a detailed agenda that outlines what will be covered and for how long by allowing enough time for reports from other officers and grievances from members.
- Plan creative programs for club meetings well in advance, arrange for speakers, panel discussions, trips, and entertainment that appeal to a wide range of interests.
- Delegate responsibility to help other members develop their leadership skills and to avoid getting overwhelmed with details.
- Identify members’ skills and interests and harness them in club projects.
- Work to ensure that the club’s activities and service projects are successfully promoted and carried out.
- Pay attention to membership growth, and development and maintain a balance among age and gender groups.
- Communicate and collaborate actively with the Department Teacher Coordinator.
Treasurer:
The treasurer of the body maintains accurate financial records. This officer should be a responsible person. Responsibilities include
- Deposit all proceeds from fund raising projects.
- Handle the work of preparing and administering the budget.
- Prepare a monthly report that accurately details
- Money on hand at the beginning and end of the month
- Income, with its source clearly indicated
- Payments, indicating for what and to whom
The treasurer has to prepare an end-of-year report summing up the activities and the budget spent on each of the activities, while sending a copy of the same to the Department Management. The outgoing treasurer should give the end-of-year report to club members and the incoming treasurer. All treasurers’ reports form part of the club’s permanent record.
Executive Members:
Executive Members help the club carry out activities and projects. The faculty Coordinator appoints the Executive Members to be the single point of interaction between the student body, the conducting class and it working groups. Additional Executive Members may be appointed as needed.
Executive Members should meet at least once a month to discuss plans and activities and share them with the Student Head. All Executive Member activities and expenses are subject to the student body’s approval.

- Retain a copy of the confirmation email for your records.
