About the R & D Cell:
Mizoram University established a Research & Development Cell vide Notification No. 196/MZU(Acad)/21/124 dated 13th April 2022 by appointing its first Director (Professor U.K.Sahoo) for its Research Governance in pursuance of the UGC letter No. 1-5/2021 (NEP/DESK-PARL) dated 14th March 2022. The Director, RDC is supported with a Technical Assistant (Smt. Baby Lalhmingliani, Department of Forestry, MZU) to smoothly carry out various activities.
Vision and Mission:
- To develop and strengthen the research ecosystem within the university, aligned with the provisions of NEP 2020
- To create a conducive environment for enhanced research productivity
- To encourage collaboration across industry, government, community-based organizations and agencies at the local, national and international levels
- To facilitate greater access to research through mobilization of resources and funding
Objectives:
- To formulate research policy to regulate interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research to be undertaken by the university
- To promote adequate autonomy to the Principal Investigators in the recruitment of manpower and financial autonomy and disseminate research outcomes to stakeholders and public at large
- Preparation of guidelines for Doctoral Research Work and Ph.D Programme Management
- To encourage core competence & consultancy in research
- To provide infrastructural facilities to encourage Institute & Industry Inter Linkage, Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development
- To promote capacity building, technology development & transfer, new knowledge generation, IPR and Patent services
Director:
Prof. U.K. Sahoo is a Senior Professor working in the Department of Forestry since 1997. He holds a Ph.D in Botany in 1993 from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong and served NEHU as a Forestry faculty since its inception before joining the Mizoram University in 2004. He has specialized in Agroforestry, Farming System Research and Climate Change Studies and has conducted many innovative researches benefitting the farming community. His present research areas of interest include carbon capture, adaptation and mitigation measures to climate change, socio-economic vulnerability studies, shifting cultivation, bio-waste conversion and nature-based solutions to improve crop productivity. He holds several teaching and administrative roles in the university and is an active researcher. He has produced more than 22 Ph.Ds and published more than 250 research papers in various journals of national and international repute, and has handled several research projects as Principal Investigator, funded by the World Bank, ICAR, DST, CSIR, GBPNIHESD, MoEF & CC etc.

Code of Ethics:
The university has prepared guidelines on Research Ethics and has incorporated a mandatory paper on this in the Ph.D programme (course work). However, the RDC will continuously make the students (Master and Ph.D) and faculty aware of the importance of the research ethics and will arrange training programmes on ethical practices.
The RDC will promote:
- The aims of research, such as knowledge, truth, and avoidance of error.
- The values that is essential to collaborative work, such as trust, accountability, mutual respect, and fairness.
- To ensure that researchers can be held accountable to the public.
- To build public supportfor research
A variety of other important moral and social values, such as social responsibility, human rights, animal welfare, compliance with the law, and public health and safety.
Anti-Plagiarism Policy of Mizoram University:
To promote academic integrity, Mizoram University has adopted anti-plagiarism policy in lines with the UGC Regulations 2018 to:
- Use appropriate anti-plagiarism software (Turnitin and others as prescribed by UGC/INFLIBINET) to check all theses, dissertations, project reports before final submission of these documents to satisfy the requirements of anti-plagiarism policy/ guidelines of the UGC
Research Policy:
Research policy of the university is to strengthen the Research Ecosystem in the university that can help in the effective delivery of teaching and learning. The research policy of the university is to encourage the faculty and students to prioritize research based on the national and regional needs especially those which help improve the socio-economic conditions of the people.
