The Department of Sociology at Mizoram University (MZU) celebrated Chapchar Kut 2025 on March 6, 2025, at the Research Scholar Room, NewSociology Building, MZU, Aizawl.
Prof. R.K. Mohanty, Head of the Department , delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the cultural significance of Chapchar Kut in Mizo society. He also conveyed his hope that this celebration would continue as an annual tradition after his retirement.
The Chief Guest of the event, Prof. Pravakar Rath, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, expressed his appreciation for the department’s initiative and highlighted the festival’s importance. Dr Hruai Liana proposed detailed vote of thanks.
Both students and faculty members actively participated in various performances – such as Kut recital, solo & group singing, and costume parade contributing to a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. The event concluded with the traditional Chhawnghnawt, where all the attendee feed boiled eggs to each other bringing everyone together in celebration. Everyone then enjoyed a variety of refreshments at the offset.
