About the School:
The School of Medical and Para Medical Sciences was established in the year 2008 to meet the high demands of medical and para-medical services in the country, especially for the local people of Mizoram. It has one Academic Department in the University Campus which is the Department of Clinical Psychology and other affiliated colleges- (1) Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), (2) Zoram Medical College (ZMC), (3) the Mizoram Nursing College (MCON), (4) the College of Nursing, Synod Hospital, (5) B.N. College of Nursing.

It started functioning on 1st August 2019 offering PG, M Phil in Clinical Psychology (RCI approved Course) and Ph.D. programmes. The Department has 7 posts for teaching faculty (prof-1, Asso Prof-2, Asst prof-4) and was established with a vision of the Centre for Behavioral Intervention and Research Centre, here in Mizoram University Campus.

RIPANS is the only Institute under the administrative control of Govt. of India which offers career-oriented courses in the field of Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical Sciences under one roof.
The Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS) is an autonomous Institution under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. RIPANS was set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, North Eastern Council (NEC) on 30th March, 1995 to provide Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical education to the people of North East States including Sikkim and to maintain the pace of Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical education and services in related field. The Institute was transferred to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India on 1st April, 2007.
RIPANS is located at Zemabawk on the slope of a hill, the site is surrounded by National Highway 54 on the South-East and Mizoram State Cancer Institute (MSCI) and Central Medical Store (Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram) on the North-West. It is located in the outskirt, about 10 km away from the capital city of Aizawl. The scenic beauty of the Campus on completion itself will be attractive beyond comparison with any other similar Institute. The site offers wide scope of development in terms of infrastructure and the dedicated services of the teaching and non-teaching staff have created an environment of real education. It was established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals’ on 19th Feb. 2014, got affiliation of Mizoram University on the 7th January 2015 and also got a letter of Permission (LoP) from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India. - Mizoram Nursing College:

The college is run by the Government of Mizoram and was established in 1990. The institution was established in 1980 with a capacity of 20 students for the General Nursing & Midwifery course under Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Mizoram and thus became a pioneer in this field. For nearly 40 years, this institution has served the people and the Government by producing excellent and dedicated nurses. Their ex-students have gone on to serve the people of our country well and some have gone beyond that by working abroad in modern hospitals all across the globe. The institution was upgraded to the College of Nursing on 11th Oct.2005 to conduct a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which is a 4-year course. It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and affiliated to the Mizoram University. - College of Nursing, Synod Hospital
Principal: Ms. C. Lalrintluangi
It is the first nursing school in Mizoram and also the oldest school of Nursing in North East India, which was started in 1928. It was established to train local people to become trained nurses as there were no trained nurses available during those days within the Lushai Hills. The Nursing College got recognition from the Nursing Council of India in 1944 and became the College of Nursing in June, 2019. The College of Nursing, Synod Hospital is run and supported by the Mizoram Presbyterian Church.
By 1966, there were as many as 149 students who had successfully completed the course. The medium of teaching was changed from Lusei language to English in the year 1972. The school has been upgraded to a College of Nursing recently with a degree programme ie, BSc (Nursing) with an annual intake of 30 students - B.N. College of Nursing

The college was established in December 2020 under the Government of Mizoram. The college got recognition from the State Nursing Council, Mizoram in 2020. The College aims to provide career opportunities for students within India and abroad.
Dean’s Activities
Activities of Dean, school of Medical and Para medical Sciences from July 2019 till date
- The Dean participated in the Regular Lok Adalat of State Legal services authority and National Lok Adalat of National Legal Services Authority of India as one of the Conciliator among the three members (Social Worker) and settled 11629 disputed cases with settled amount in Rs. 602544221/- (Rupees 602 Crores, five lakhs, four thousand two hundred and twenty) only during 2019-2023 year; and had received official acknowledgement from the Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Government of Mizoram.
- The Dean was the Convener of the Covid19 Committee on Psychological and Social guidance, Government of Mizoram for the whole state from 1st April 2020 till date (vide No. D. 33011/21/2019-HFW(nCov)/Wed Dt 1st April 2020) visited all quarantine Centres run by Government, YMA (NGOs), Churches and Home quarantine giving psychological counseling (psychological – first aids, support counseling) and to resolved any conflict between government and frontline worker, Government and Quarantine Centre, Government and NGO’s Volunteers, NGOs to Quarantine inmates, between inmates of quarantine Centre with their personal mental health problems through personal contact in individual and group councelling, through Social Media (DDK, AIR, Local TV Channels, Instagram, whatapp, Flyers IG etc.) actively participating throughout the outbreak of COVID19 with constant support of other members of the Committee, Faculties and Students of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psycholoogy, Mizoram University, Member of the Mizoram Psychology Association, Member of the Alumni Association of Clin Psych Dept and Psych Dept of MZU, Central YMA, MHIP Hqrs, and all In charge of the Quarantine Centres located in the cities and remote places of Mizoram. I personally than to the Almighty God, Governemtn Official and people of Mizoram giving constant support thought ogf combating of the dreadful COVID19 Pandemic.
- The Dead was delegated by the Government of Mizoram on behalf of the Governmentof Mizoram (vide No.B. L3O IL/39 l/2020-DMR Aizawl, the 8th of Julg, 2O2O) to be the Team Leader of Psgchological Suppott & Guyidance Teams to earthquake-hit villages of champhal Distrrct., Khawzawl District and Tuipui East District (Constituencies) which covered 31 Villages in the eastern side boarder to Myanmar from 9 to 13 July 2021 with 38 Psychologists (comprises of faculty and student of the Department of Psychology and Clinical psychology, MZU, Alumni Member of Clin Psych and Psych Depts, MZU) to organize psychological diagnosis, Psychological support and guidance for trauma tized victims of the earthquakes coverage areas. The team perform the mission under heavy rains with landslides and slippery road, reached the victims who could not sleep or take food personally to their home, in open community ground, and also through local VC loud speakers to know their problems, and to solve their mental problems. The team successfully completed the mission and got received recognition from the Director, Disaster management and the VC of MZU.
- Dean and her team again delegated to meet Labourers of SIPMIU those who collected garbage of Aizawl City were afraid of the dreadful COVID19 which disturbed mentally and physically not able to function their daily activities. The team visited on 26.5.2020 and successfully resolved their problems.
- Dean, and Legal Services Authority visited Central Jail on 12.9./2023 to give Legal Awareness and Psychological Counseling to the inmates of the Central Jail, Aizawl.
- Dean had consultative meeting with the Director, Head of the Departments of Zoram Medical College on examination and other academic related matter on 27/6/2023.
- The Dean and her team delegated to the dislocated people of Manipur Conflict (vise No PB/MIN(HFW/THE/CI)-10/2023/99 Dt 3/7/2023) to do psychological diagnose and give appropriate Psychological counseling to the inmates of Raltlan Centre run by CYMA and Government of Mizoram, and located in difference places of Mizoram. The team visited and did appropriate measures to solve their problems, completed the mission successfully.
- The Dean and his team member visited the Central Jail Tanhril on 4th October 2019 and assessed Mental Health status as well as Taught Life Skills to 90 convicted inmates and inmates charged with rigorous imprisonment.
- The Dean and faculty with students of the Department of Psychology visited TNT (Home for addicted and destitute) in observance of World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2021, conducted psycho diagnosis and counseling to the inmates, with the outcome of the dia located in difference places gnosis 150 inmates got Disability certificate from Government to get support for their living.
- Grace the function as Dean of the School of Medical and Paramedical Sciences in the Online workshop on securing funding for higher studies abroad was organized by Department of Clinical Psychology on 23rdOctober 2021.
- The Dean and Department of Clin Psych had a Legal Awareness Campaign on Mental Health was organized at Central Jail in collaboration with Mizoram State Legal Services Authority and Hands of Hope and Department of Clinical Psychology on18th November 2021.
- Chaired the organizing committee of the IAAP International Conference on Relevance of Psychology in Pandemic Condition and it’s impact on well-being in the digital world was organized by Department of Clinical Psychology on 27thto 29thanuary 2022, attended by 714 participants and 400 outside delegates, mental health professional participant got CRE scored and Nursing also earned scored through this conference.
- Chief Guest in the Workshop on Disability in Children was organized by Department of Clinical Psychology during 24thMarch to 25thMarch 2022.
- Resource Person in the Educational Life Skill/Coping Strategies in Education at Govt. Hrangbana College was organized by Department of Clinical Psychology on 18thApril 2022.
- The Dean & thye Department of Clin Psych visited the adopted village of Hmuifang to give Life Skill Training to YMA and MHIP, all students of different schools at Hmuifang was organized by Department of Clinical Psychology on 22ndApril 2022.
- The Dean lectured on Empowering Self to Manage Stress was organized at Assam Rifles HQ, Aizawl on 6thMay 2022.
