About the School:
The School of Life Sciences was established in the year 2005 and consists of the departments of Zoology, Botany and Biotechnology. All the Departments offer M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree courses. The different departments of the school have well qualified faculty members actively involved in teaching & research. The school has developed a modern animal house, tissue culture laboratory, museum, transgenic glass and net houses. The School is engaged in the frontier areas of research in biological sciences including Cancer biology, Conservation biology, Molecular Entomology, algal physiology, oxidative stress, microbial diversity, forest ecology, ethnobotany, plant and microbial biotechnology which are supported by ICMR, CSIR, DBT, UGC, DST, ICAR and DRDO. The School is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments, Bioinformatics Facility and Advanced-State Biotech Hub for teaching and research activities. The departments have been able to develop with the best infrastructure for its teaching and research programme. The Department of Zoology has an Animal House Facility which is registered with the National Authority. Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, Human Ethics Committee and Biosafety Committee are also active for smooth implementation of specific research programmes. To strengthen collaborative research, inter-institution MOU with international (Bangor University, UK) and national institution (NIPER), and with education institute (Alagappa University) have been signed. The Departments have been awarded DST-FIST programme for further strengthening its infrastructure. The School provides training and gives importance to regional problems in R&D. Several International / National/State Level Seminars/Conferences have been organized.

The three departments under the School of Life Sciences has actively involved in academic, research and extension activities. The Seminar/Workshop/ Webinars organized/ conducted under the School of Life Sciences is 25 in 2019-20, 35 in 2020-21, 50 in 2021-22 and 08 in 2022-23.
