About:
The Health Centre of Mizoram University was established in 2001. Initially it was under the NEHU Aizawl Campus. The first Medical Office was the late Dr. DK Bahali, SMO under whose guidance the Centre was functioning at a rented building in Chanmari till his untimely demise in November 2003. In April 2004, Dr. Pauline Lallianzuali Vanchhawng started working as a contract Medical Officer and was regularized in June 2005. The Centre was initially functioning only as an outpatient department and a dispensary with 1 nurse(B.Sc.), 1 Pharmacist (B. Pharm Dip). 1 Dresser, 1 LDC, 1 Peon and 1 ambulance driver till April 2011.
The Health Centre is now located at Tanhril Campus and provides basic facility for curative and preventive measures plus plays an important part in educating and maintaining the health status of the students, staff and their dependants. A Resident Medical Officer and a nurse is on night duty from 5:00PM to 9:00AM and 24 hours on weekends and national Holidays.
Patient visit record/prescription/ medicine issued/stock/laboratory reports have been computerized under the E-Governance Program of Mizoram University from 1st February 2017 till 2021. As the University has started Samarth program , the ICT department is working to imbibe the functioning of the Health Centre into the SAMART program.

On Emergency Duty: 5pm – 9am (Mon – Fri) : Weekends & National Holidays (24 hrs)
Pachhunga University College: Wednesday 9am to 5pm

1. Out-Patient Department:

2. Dispensary/ Pharmacy :
Medicines are provided free of cost.
*Wide variety of medicines, infusions and injectables are stored in the dispensary.
*Store room for medicines with air conditioner to maintain temperature.
*Fridge for injectables etc.
3. Laboratory :
The laboratory started its function from March 2012. The variety of tests which can be performed are:
* a Semi auto analyser (ERBA Chem 5x)
* a Semi auto analyser (ERBA Chem 7x)
* 1 refrigerator
* a centrifuge
* an incubator
* a hot air oven
* a water bath
* 2 Olympus microscope (electronic binocular)
* a rotatory shaker
* 1 needle destroyer
* All Sterilization of instruments and dressing items performed here.
5. Emergency Room : For all emergency cases.
It is provided with:
• 2 beds
• 2 drip stands
• O2 cylinders – 2 electrical & 2 manual oxygen tanks
• 2 suction machines
• 2 Nebulizers
• A Defibrillator
• An ECG Machine
• 4 needle destroyer
• Stock of emergency medicines etc are stored
• Steel Rack
• Medicine trolleys
• 3 BP Machines (1 Manual + 2 Digital)
• 3 Steam Inhalation machines
• Accucheck Machine.
6. Ambulance service 24 hrs.
7. A Resident Medical Officer is present with a nurse for any unforeseen emergencies after duty hours especially at night and holidays.
8. Dental Chamber:
Though it is leased out to a private practitioner by the University, it has provided immense satisfaction to the campus dwellers who now do not have to travel far for their dental problems.
Contribution – In quality related aspects of the University:
i) Provide Medical duty during Inter College and MZU Annual Sports.
ii) Conduct regular Health Checkup of KV MZU students annually.
iii) Held mass testing for Covid 19 in the campus several times as per the government’s guidelines with the help of the Department of Health and Family welfare, Govt. of Mizoram.
iv) Provided strict monitoring of vitals of Covid positive patient under quarantine and home isolation. Patients were provided with free digital bp machine , steam inhalation machine, digital thermometer and pulse oximeter each. A daily chart for recording their vitals was also provided. Their vitals were posted in a whatsapp group (solely created for this purpose) morning and evening and was closely monitored by the Medical Officers and appropriate advice was given accordingly.
v) Provided free medicines to the Covid positive patients with a prescription chart and advice on the do’s and don’ts during their quarantine/ isolation.
vi) Tested every positive patient on the last day of their quarantine/isolation to render them safe for their release as per guidelines of the government.
vii) Regularly posted notifications in the different social media groups of the University regarding new orders or guidelines issued by the government from time to time.
viii) Encouraged the promotion of Covid 19 appropriate behavior among the University fraternity and campus residents through social media regularly. Rules on disposal of garbage was also implemented and all campus residents were asked to follow the said rules.
ix) Organized Covid19 vaccination drive for the staff, teachers and their dependants , and the students of the University including the neighbouring localities on 5 occasions in the campus in collaboration with the Covid Action Committee of MZU and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram.

x) Treated, monitored, and cured 167 positive cases till 30.09.2022 (last patient) after the government gave permission for home isolation for covid positive cases from mid 2021
xi) Took an active role in providing medical duty during G20 convention which was held in the University campus, together with the medical team from the State Government.
xii) The Medical Officers have been acting as resource person for HRDC MZU twice a year delivering lectures on basic life support procedures, life style diseases, casualty management etc.
xiii) Conducted the ‘Basic Life Support Training’ for the final semester students in the Department of Disaster Management in 2023.
xiv) Held a zoom meeting on “Nutrition & Diet to maintain a healthy life ‘ under Health Care Committee of PUC for the students and staff of Pachhunga University College on 26th March 2022.
xv) Held a free clinic in Pachhunga University College under the Health Care Committee of PUC together with Doctors from Zoram Medical College, Falkawn on 13th September 2019 for the neighboring localities
xvi) Conducted a ‘NO TOBACCO CAMPAIGN’ under the Health Care Committee of Pachhunga University College on 19th July 2023.
xvii) A talk was held on ‘ Lifestyle diseases’ in the seminar conducted on World Obesity day at School of Education, MZU on 4th March 2024
xviii) A workshop on Basic Life Support – A Life Saving Skill was held on the occasion of World Health Day at the School of Education, MZU on 7th April 2024.
