The Mizoram University Students Counselling Cell was reconstituted as the Mizoram University Counselling Cell (MZUCC) on 2nd April 2020. The MZUCC took up the responsibility of providing the much-needed counselling services and mental health support for the students and staff members of the University.
Objectives of the Mizoram University Counselling Cell (MZUCC):
The following are the objectives of MZUCC:
- To spread Mental Health Awareness
- To spread awareness about the relevance of counselling and its benefits
- To work in close collaboration with Departmental Coordinators
- To identify and assess psychological and mental health problems existing among the University community including students, faculty members and staffs of the University
- To provide counselling services and mental health support to the University community including students, faculty members and other staff of the University
- To facilitate necessary referral for further consultation with mental health professionals

The term of the Members / Counsellors shall be for a period of five years or until further order, whichever is earlier. The Convener shall be responsible for maintaining all records and reports and returns as and when required. The Convener shall also take necessary steps by requesting HODs to propose Departmental Coordinator, and to convene meeting of the cell at least once in a semester.
Identify Departmental Coordinator -> MZUCC -> Counsellor -> Referral to mental health professionals (if required)
The members/Counsellors may be reached through the respective Departmental Coordinators or through the mobile numbers available at mzu.edu.in. Counselling may be given as required in the Counselling Room of the Department of Psychology, Mizoram University.
1) MZU Counselling Cell identified Departmental Coordinators from thirty-nine departments of Mizoram University and Hostel Coordinators from thirteen halls of residence for students and research scholars. MZUCC organized an online meeting “Sensitization Programme for Departmental Coordinators” on 25th April 2023 along with all the Departmental Coordinators and Hostel Coordinators to spread awareness
and information about the role and function of MZUCC. The meeting started with welcome speech by Prof. Zoengpari, Head, Department of Psychology (Convener) addressing all the coordinators and members of MZUCC. Dr. Laxmi Narayan Rathore, Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology presented a topic on “Basic Concepts in Mental Health – Identification of Psychological Distress”. Prof. HK Laldinpuii Fente, Department of Psychology spoke on the “Roles of Departmental Coordinators”. Dr. Sabiha Alam Chowdhury and Dr. M. Sandhyarani
Devi briefed on Issues and Challenges faced by students and scholars. The online meeting concluded with fruitful discussions on the role of MZUCC in campus mental health.
2) MZU Counselling Cell organized a National Workshop on Stress Management on 2nd May 2023 at MZU Guest House Conference Hall. The resource person was Prof. Tony Sam George, Psychotherapist (20+ years of experience) and Dean, School of Social Sciences and Head, Department of Psychology, Christ University, Bangalore. The workshop was attended by students, research scholars and faculties of Mizoram
University.
3) A symposium on Campus Mental Health was organized by Mizoram University Counselling Cell on 12th May, 2023 at the Academic & Seminar Complex Auditorium. The programme started with a welcome speech from Prof. Zoengpari, Convener. Prof. Pravakar Rath, Vice Chancellor in-charge was the guest of honour. Dr. Lalropuii, Counselling Psychologist and Director, Black Olives Counselling & Research Centre presented the topic “Anxiety & Self Management” in the forenoon and Dr. K. Robert L. Khawlhring, Psychiatrist, Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram spoke on “Psychological First Aid” in the afternoon. A fruitful interaction and discussion was held after the presentations. Student representatives from each academic department, research scholars and faculty attended the programme.
