About the Department :         

        The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was established in the year 2006 with an intake of first batch of Post Graduate students in July, 2007. The faculty members of the Department are specialized in disciplines of Pure and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. The syllabus has been framed at par with other Universities of the Country and as per UGC model syllabus. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is implemented in the year 2012. The P.G. and U.G. curriculum were reframed as per NEP, 2020 guidelines.
The department has three computer labs to cater to the needs of students, research scholars and faculty members. There are various of software including MATLAB campus license are available for use.
The department has been receiving NBHM library grant since every year. Using this fund the department has established a departmental library containing more than 3344 books.
The department was sanctioned DST-FIST grant of Rs. 40 lakhs in the year 2021 for development of infrastructure facilities including equipments, books etc.
Many pass-out students qualified NET/JRF and have gone for higher studies and jobs. Some are serving Govt. of Mizoram after qualifying MPSC exams.
The department has a vision to popularize mathematics and address math phobia among young students by introducing teaching and learning of mathematics using computer aided methods in the classroom. In this regard the department has been visiting selected schools in and around Aizawl and introduced GeoGebra software which helps in understanding and visualizing mathematical concepts easily.
The department has been organizing many conferences/workshops/seminars on various topics of Mathematics and computer science for the benefit of students and teachers frequently.
