            In pursuance of Notification Even No.6869-’77, Dt.11.3.2002, the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, Mizoram University was established on 11th March, 2002.

 

Students’ Welfare Committee:

            The Students’ Welfare Committee was constituted to assist the Dean in the performance of his multifarious functions and duties as prescribed by the Statute of the Mizoram University. Under the Chairmanship of the Dean, the Students’ Welfare Committee has, whenever necessary, met to discuss any matters connected with MZU Students’ Union, Study Tours, Students’ Varsity Week, cultural Programme called ‘Inferno’ and the general welfare of the student community. In fact, this Committee has become an indispensable part of the Dean in streamlining and guiding students’ activities.

MZUSU Activities (April 2011 – March 2012):

Following are some of the activities of Mizoram University Students’ Union (MZUSU) for the Year 2010 - 2011

The MZUSU General Election was conducted on 5th October, 2010, under the guidance of Dr. F. Lalnunmawia Asst. Professor, Deptt. of Forestry, MZU, Returning Officer at the MZU Conference Hall and the Election Results were declared on the very same day.

  

Handing /taking over of charge was held under the guidance of Dr. Lalnuntluanga, Dean, Students’ Welfare, on the 30th September, 2011. Most of the past Students’ Union Leaders in station also turned up to witness this function of handing/taking over of charges.

 

The MZUSU successfully organised 2nd Mizoram University Festival as part of its co-curricular activities. These activities included items such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, amazing race, chess, singing competition, drama, essay writing, poetry writing, rock contest, runway showdown (fashion show), dance competition, cultural dance completion and fun zone.

 

The MZUSU organised a farewell function for the   outgoing students, and had given parting gift to all the outgoing students.

 

Four MZUSUleaders had participated in the Leadership training organised by Rashtrya Sneha Chhavni Mumbai at New Zealand Hostel, Mumbai.

 

The MZUSU team had participated in the Mizoram University Sports 2011 organised by Sport Department, Mizoram University.

  1. North Eastern Short Film and Cultural Festival:

The MZUSU team which consist of 20 students had been participated in the North Eastern Short Film & Cultural Festival organised by Take-Five Communications at Siliguri.

 

The 10th MZUSU General Body meeting had been called. Several important resolutions concerning the Welfare of the students and Mizoram University as well had been discuss and passed.

 

A farewell function for the outgoing students was held on 13th May 2010, Felicitation of NET/JRF holders, presentation of parting gift to outgoing students high entertainments of songs presented etc.

 

The Mizoram University team participated in Alchirenga, a cultural & musical festival, organised by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Mizoram University team had won a countable prize.

 

The MZUSU in collaboration with MZU Red Ribbon Club organised a blood donation Camp.101 numbers of students and staff of MZU donated their valuable Blood.

 

The MZUSU organised two days inter departmental sports for various academic department of MZU. Department of Public Administration had won 1st position in football for men and Department of English won 1st position in Penalty shootout for women

Others:-

* Mizoram University Students Discussion Forum was formed; the forum had been already organised discussion on two topics and one special lecture from a prominent person.

 

* The MZUSU Varsity chronicles is regularly published.

 

* The MZUSU had met the concern authority of Mizoram government to improve the MZU road.

 

* The MZUSU Central Library was opened at Saturday by the Authority as requested by Students’ Union.

MZUSU Activities (April 2012 – March 2013):

Following are some of the activities of Mizoram University Students’ Union (MZUSU) for the Year 2012 – 2013:

1. MZU Festival, 2012:

The 3rd MZU Festival was successfully organized by MZUSU during 10th – 13th April, 2012 at the MZU Campus. The festival included items such as, Volleyball, Basketball, Amazing race, Debate, Theatrix (Drama), Rock fest, Cultural dance, Runway showdown, Dance, Varsity Miss contest, Essay and Poetry writing and Funzone. The festival concluded with a grand musical concert – INFERNO.

2. Parting Social, 2012:

A farewell function for the outgoing students was organized on 18th May, 2012 and all the outgoing students were presented with a gift.

3. Interaction Programme:

The Mizoram University students had an interaction meeting with Mr. Dean R.Thompson, US Consul General on 13th June, 2012 at the Administration Conference Hall, Mizoram University.

4. MZU Sports Meet, 2012:

MZUSU participated in the MZU sports meet 2012, the sports meet was divided into two phase. The first phase was held at Lunglei during 23rd – 27th July, 2012 and the second phase at Aizawl during 17th – 21st Sept, 2012.

5. Freshers Social, 2012:

A welcome function for the newly enrolled students was organized on 31st Aug, 2012 at MZU Multipurpose Hall and the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. R. Lalthantluanga graced the function as the Chief Guest.

6. MZUSU Election, 2012-13:

The MZUSU Election was held on 28th Sept, 2012 under the guidance of Dr. Victor Zochhuana Ralte Returning Officer.

7. Handing of charge:

Handing over of charge to the newly elected SU leaders was held on the 5th Oct, 2012 at MZU Guest House.

8. Akhra Tribal India International Festival:

Ten students (5 male & 5 female) participated in the Festival which was organized by Central University of Jharkhand at Ranchi during 8th -10th November, 2012. Representatives of MZU performed Bamboo Dance and a Cultural Show.

9. Trekking Programme:

Trekking Programme was organized at two different Places-

Reiek Mountain/ Peak during 29th Oct to 2nd Nov 2012, in which 30 students participated.

Dampa Tiger Reserve during 30th Oct to 2nd Nov 2012, in which 45 students participated.

10. General Body Meeting cum Advance Christmas:

General Body Meeting cum Advance Christmas was held on 16th Nov 2012 at the Amphitheatre, MZU.

11. Alcheringa Festival, 2013:

The MZUSU participated in the Alcheringa Festival organized by IIT, Guwahati during 31st Jan to 3rd Feb 2013. MZU team won the Best Guitarist Prize, 2nd position in Dance Competition and 3rd position in the Fashion Show.

12. Youth Empowerment:

Three students of MZU participated at the Rajiv Gandhi Youth Leadership Intern Programme at Guwahati organized by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development between 10th Jan- 15th Feb, 2013.

13. Inter-Departmental Sports, 2013:

A two day Inter Departmental Sports Competition for various Departments of MZU was held at the AR Ground Aizawl on 7th- 8th March 2013. Dept of Geography & Resource Management and Dept of Political Science won championship title in Football (men) and Penalty shootout (women) respectively.

 

 

Others activities:

MZUSU Leaders met PWD E-in-C, Govt. of Mizoram regarding on widening and black topping of MZU approach road.

Donation was collected by MZUSU for fire victim Ms. C. Vanlaltlani IV Sem Dept of Psychology who lost all her property in the fire.
